Our homes are often the biggest purchase we will ever invest in and the interior is just as important as the outside curb appeal. We may well have the same floor plan as our neighbours, but we can express our own individuality and personality within the interior with décor, furniture and soft furnishings.
Of course there are numerous shops and online sites offering cheap and cheerful off the shelf curtains and blinds but there are often restrictions from non-standard windows, awkwardly placed radiators or just modern architecture where ready-mades just won’t fit. Ready-mades are designed to be adjustable in width so will have a restricted choice of headings. Often only pencil pleat (which gathers) or eyelets (metal rings that slide along a pole) your curtains can look too skimpy in a smaller width or too bunched if you go too wide. Bespoke soft furnishings are accurately measured and made to fit your window with perfect fullness when closed and remain neatly in their folds when open due to quality materials and hand finished weighted and mitred corners and hems.
Ready-made curtains and blinds are manufactured in bulk and machine made so often rows of stitching will be visible the front of the main fabric. Bespoke curtains are hand finished to ensure that all the stitching is hidden within the layers of fabric and not visible at all on the face fabric. If you’ve chosen a patterned fabric all your items will have the best pattern placement and will match each other in the same room, (something which is impossible to achieve with patterned fabric if buying off the shelf). Bespoke Roman blinds can be an excellent solution for awkward or mis shaped windows in older properties and will add a splash of colour and interest in a neutral setting or even used as part of a layered look with dress curtains and pelmets adding that final touch to a traditional interior.
Ready-mades are limited in not only size but design and fabrics too. Bespoke means you can purchase fabric by the meter from any fabric house or independent designer. As well as having an unlimited choice of fabric you can often choose in the comfort of your own home and match to your existing décor in their intended environment. Bespoke means you can add accessories to your curtains & blinds such as piped or fringed scatter cushions, upholstered lampshades, seat cushions, tie backs and pelmets. These will add not only a touch of luxury and individuality but an extra layer of warmth and comfort.
From a contemporary wave curtains on a large bi-fold door to a traditional classical design with a hand finished headings, there is a design for all tastes and my aim as a bespoke curtain maker is to meet your requirements to the full and make sure your vision is achieved in a way that suits your style and personal taste.

After initial contact we can arrange a home visit where I will take accurate measurements and bring a selection of pattern books and fabric samples based on any details you have already given me. We can discuss styles of headings and any design ideas you have. You can view fabrics in the natural light of your own surroundings. This way you can be certain that your soft furnishings will look perfect. I can advise you on any practicalities and help you find styles, pick colour schemes and choose fabrics that will suit your home and your personality. Alternatively, you can visit my workroom to discuss options and I can make an appointment just to measure. Initial consultation appointments are free of charge.
I will take away all your ideas and put together a selection of options bespoke to you. I will price options for linings, fabrics and headings. This gives you the chance to pick a selection that suits your budget. Once we have confirmed we have the right window treatments and you are happy for me to help with your project I will put together a final quote with timescales and payment details.
Starting with fabric on a roll, the widths are cut to size, pattern matched and stitched together. From there I carry out the entire curtain making process here in my workroom. Once the widths are joined, the hems and linings are hand sewn in place to ensure an invisible finish and beautiful drape. Headings are machine sewn for strength but finished by hand. All curtains have mitred corners and weighted hems. Finally, any decorative trimmings are added creating a unique product bespoke to you.
Fabric arrives on a roll that is approx. 1.5 meters in width and as many curtains require a wide span these widths need to be joined so the pattern matches when the widths are sewn together. I will make sure that any pattern, whether embroidered, woven or printed is matched and repeated across the full span of the curtains. I will also make sure any hand finished headings have the best possible placement to enhance your chosen fabric.
My favourite item to make is a hand finished roman blind. I use a bonded interlining which is an extra layer hand sewn between the face fabric and the lining. This helps stabilise even the most delicate of fabrics and ensures that the folds created are crisp and defined. All the layers are hand sewn so that there is no visible stitching on the front of your blind. Fiberglass rods are machine stitched to the lining for extra strength and the bottom is weighted with a hidden baton. Each blind comes ready attached to a child safe compliant headrail with a choice of metal coloured chains.
Your blinds can be made to sit inside or outside the recess. If outside I offer the option of a headrail side cover that continues round the edge of the blind concealing the mechanism, giving the illusion of a small pelmet .
Once your items are completed and the balance is paid I will deliver to your home and dress your curtains. If you are installing new tracks, poles or headrails and would prefer to get them professionally fitted I can arrange for a fitter to contact and liaise directly with you regarding costs and timings to suit. Once fitted I will personally dress the curtains and make sure everything is to your satisfaction.
